From 28th April 1956 a comic strip version of Journey Into Space appeared in the pages of Express Weekly and ran until 1957. It was written by Charles Chilton and drawn by Tacconi and later Bruce Cornwall and Terence Patrick.

The story that ran in the weekly pages was entitled Planet of Fear and began with Discovery blasting off from Moonbase IV on a routine mission to Mars in 1976. The drawings of Jet, Mitch, Doc and Lemmy were based on the actors who portrayed them in The World In Peril.

See - it even looks like them!

Express Weekly was published by Beaverbrook Press as a rival to the popular Eagle magazine, which featured the Dan Dare and Riders of the Range comic strips, amongst others. Not surprisingly Express Weekly had their own cowboy strip as well as science fiction space adventure with Jet Morgan!

"The faceless men, with their efficient weapons, had no fear of the the reptiles, and they quickly rounded up as many Submen as the could find, and put them to work as slaves to help build the Great City..."

Express - Boys Full Colour Annual

There was also an Express Weekly annual, which appeared at the end of 1956. Featuring a glossy a red cover - much like the highly collectable Eagle annuals - this one off annual featured an eight page Journey Into Space comic strip. Entitled Jet Morgan and the Space Castaway, it was written by Charles Chilton and drawn by Bruce Cornwall.
